So Long Community Server, Hello Blogengine.Net

Category: Joel Ivory Johnson @ 20:24

Earlier this year Telligent, the makers of the software packaged I use to manage this blog, decided to discontinue the Personal Edition version of their product.  The personal edition was free and was designed for individuals that are blogging for non-commercial reasons (not making a profit, no advertisements). They made the business decision to only support their paid producs. I looked into how much a license would cost but I'm not quite willing to pay the 1,000 USD price tag for it. So I'm moving my blog to a different software package. The one I'm changing too comes with complete source code, which is good, because I could not do some customizations that I wanted to do under the free version of Community Server.

I've got the blog package running locally and still need to figure out a few things before I make the move. I plan to minimize the amount of links refering to my site that get broken and ofcourse will move all of my content to the new software package. Chances are the link to the RSS feed will change. Once up and running I'll leave the old blog site up and running as I migrate the content . The link addresses will be posted.

Update: You've got to love open source projects, I found the software for accomplishing some of my tasks in an automated fashion here: http://www.codeplex.com/BlogML/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=171
