Creative Zii gets Android this week

Category: Joel Ivory Johnson @ 20:21

While Android looks like a nice OS on paper I've been frustrated in the past by the availability of actual android hardware.  Here in the USA the Android phones were only available on a single phone provided by a single carrier; a carrier that I was not using at the time. That's changed within the past few months. Two carriers have Android based hardware and soon it will be three (the USA has 4 nationwide carriers, all of which use 3G technologies and frequencies that are not compatible with each other.

In addition to 3 out of the 4 carriers having Android phones there's non-phone Android hardware coming, among which is the Creative Zii Egg.  When the Zii Egg was first released it containd Creative's proprietary PlasmaOS. But this week an update will be available to allow the device to be reflashed for Android. More details coming after the release.

Update: The week has come and gone and no sign of any updates.  What's the deal Creative?
